Today at 15:00 Nur-Sultan time on the lichess.org gaming platform the children's online chess tournament "Cup of International Grandmaster Darmen Sadvakasov" will start. The organizers of the competition were “NMH “Baiterek” JSC, the Darmen Sadvakasov Chess Academy and the Bolashak Association.
A special video message to the tournament participants was recorded by the Chairman of the Board of the "Baiterek" holding Aydar Arifkhanov.
“We are glad that we have the opportunity to contribute to the development of domestic chess and help our children adapt to new conditions. It is obvious that during a pandemic, online formats will become the only safe way to strengthen the position of the Kazakh school in the international arena. We hope that the participants of the Darmen Sadvakasov Cup will continue the victorious traditions that our champions laid down.", - noted the head of the Holding.
Also, young Kazakhstani talents were addressed by the stars of domestic sports - olympic boxing champion Ermakhan Ibraimov, four-time world champion in weightlifting Ilya Ilyin, four-time world champion in MMA, karate and jiu-jitsu Aidar Makhmetov, champion of Asia and the Asian Games in rhythmic gymnastics Anna Alyabyeva and international grandmaster, world champion U20 Darmen Sadvakasov.
In addition, the 14th world chess champion Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) and the winner of the World Chess Cup, contender for the title of world champion Boris Gelfand (Israel) sent their video congratulations to Kazakhstani talents.
About 900 young chess players from all regions of the country have applied for participation in the Cup. They will be divided into three age categories.

Chess Academy Darmen Sadvakasov operates since 2016. The task of the Academy is the professional training of young chess players, the development of talented youth, the popularization of chess in Kazakhstan, the holding of republican and international competitions. Over the years, hundreds of students of the Academy have achieved high sports results, many of them became winners and prize-winners of various prestigious tournaments in the country and abroad.
