A regular meeting of the Council of Corporate Secretaries of the Holding's group of companies was held in the Baiterek holding.
After the opening of the meeting, Maira Turganova, Chairman of the Council, Head of the Corporate Secretary Service (SCS) of the Baiterek Holding, spoke about the work done by the SCS for the reporting period, and also informed about the results of an independent assessment of the corporate governance of the Holding.
- Last year, an independent assessment of corporate governance was carried out, according to the results of which the final corporate governance rating of the Baiterek holding was 97%. This is a high rate. In percentage terms, such indicators as the effectiveness of the Board of Directors and the Management Board, risk management, sustainable development exceeded 95%, she said.
During the meeting, new members of the Council were presented - corporate secretaries of Kazyna Capital Management JSC Ermek Smagulov, KazAgroFinance JSC Bakhyt Yermasheva, Agrarian Credit Corporation JSC Asem Akhmetova, Industrial Development Fund JSC Nazym Shalbaeva. Mayra Turganova wished her colleagues success in their work.
Within the framework of the Council meeting, topical issues of corporate governance were also considered, including information on the latest trends in this area, which was presented by Adalat Abdumanapova, IFC project manager on corporate governance in Europe and Central Asia.
- The relevance of sustainable development issues on the global agenda has significantly increased and now ESG standards have become part of business practices in the financial / banking sector and are an integral part of investor requirements; Funding is provided for mandatory ESG purposes. ESG is being integrated into the corporate governance system, including workflow and processes, stakeholder engagement, transparency and information disclosure. Within the framework of the Paris Agreement, it is planned to develop and approve the National Strategy for Sustainable Development of Kazakhstan, - A. Abdumanapova emphasized.
In addition, issues of practical activities of corporate secretaries of the Group of Companies of the Holding were discussed. The corporate secretary of Otbasy Bank JSC Elena Pogrebnaya presented information on the digitalization of activities and the contribution of the corporate secretary to improving the corporate governance of the Bank.
Also, the Chairperson of the Council of Corporate Secretaries of the Holding Group of Companies informed about the planned organization of the Forum of Corporate Secretaries of Kazakhstan and the Corporate Secretary-2021 competition at the Astana International Financial Center.
